Scream 6 will be gorier and scarier, but won’t feature Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott

June 6, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Scream 5, better known as Scream, really upped the ante with gore and horror. While the Wes Craven originals weren’t shy about violence, the latest film adds in a more brutal element and now one of the stars of the upcoming Scream 6 says things are only getting bloodier.

Jenna Ortega, star of 2022’s Scream as well as the upcoming sixth entry, has hinted that the new sequel could continue the series’ darker new tone.

“Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating. I just read part of the script, and it just gets more and more gory,” says Ortega. “I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

While Scream 6 may be more violent however, the sequel will also be without iconic final girl Sidney Prescott, as Neve Campbell has confirmed the rumours that she won’t be returning for the movie after the actress reportedly told fans on the convention circuit that she would not be back.

“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,” states Campbell. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

Scream 6 stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Dermot Mulroney, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox. Principal photography will start this summer with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick co-writing the screenplay and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence returning as directors.

Scream 6 is set for release on March 31st 2023.
