See three generations of Shaft as filming kicks off on the reboot

February 4, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With production on the Shaft sequel/reboot Son of Shaft now underway, a cast photo has arrived online which features Isaac Hayes III, the grandson of the music legend behind the theme from the 1971 original, alongside three generations of Shaft – the original John Shaft (Richard Roundtree), his nephew John Shaft II (Samuel L. Jackson), and the nephew’s son John Shaft Jr. (Jesse T. Usher).

Tim Story (Ride Along) is directing the new movie from a script by Kenya Barris (Black-ish), and the plot reportedly sees Usher’s FBI agent John Shaft Jr. forced into teaming up with his estranged, old school father on a case. The Netflix original is slated for release in June 2019 and also stars Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse), Regina Hall (Girls Trip) and Method Man (The Deuce).
