As Amazon gets ready for its Tomb Raider TV series with Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner, she may soon be joined by sci-fi queen Sigourney Weaver in the video game adaptation.
According to Variety, Weaver is in talks with Amazon MGM to star opposite Turner. No details have been revealed on the potential role whether she could be a mentor, family member or villain to Lara Croft as she embarks on her new adventure.
Details on the series itself are being kept under wraps. It is unknown if the Tomb Raider series will follow an experienced Lara Croft or if it will take inspiration from the rebooted video game trilogy from Crystal Dynamics which focused on Lara’s origin across the three games. That trilogy itself was the source of the 2018 Tomb Raider film starring Alicia Vikander as Lara.

Tomb Raider is created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge who will also write and produce the series. She will also serve as co-showrunner with Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines). Tomb Raider is officially set to begin production on January 19th, 2026.
Weaver will be seen next in two films over the next two weekends. She’ll first feature in Bryan Fuller’s directorial debut Dust Bunny opposite Mads Mikkelsen and then return to Pandora in James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Next summer she’ll travel to the beloved galaxy far, far away in the Star Wars film The Mandalorian & Grogu.
In the meantime, fans of Lara Croft can get their fill with the second and final season of Netflix’s animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, featuring Hayley Atwell as the voice of Lara, when it premieres on December 11th.
