Simon Kinberg “figuring out” Fantastic Four 2

September 14, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Despite the utter failure of Fantastic Four both critically and commercially, it seems that 20th Century Fox isn’t quite ready to call time on the franchise, as writer-producer Simon Kinberg has revealed to MTV News that he’s “figuring out” the sequel.

“I’m really focused on the next one,” states Kinberg. “I do believe there is a great Fantastic Four movie that we’ve made with that cast. So I’m gonna figure out what that is. We’re figuring out what that movie would be. I’d like [the sequel] to happen.”

Kinberg also shared his thoughts on the reception to the Josh Trank-directed film, stating that: “I was obviously disappointed. I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know.”

Fantastic Four 2 already has a release date set for June 9th, 2017 – although that was announced prior to the release of the first movie, and with the reboot earning just $150 million at the box office we can’t imagine a sequel is high on Fox’s list of priorities.

Do you think a second Fantastic Four movie could salvage the franchise, or should Fox just give up? Let us know in the comments below…

Fantastic Four sees Josh Trank (Chronicle) directing a cast that includes Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Jamie Bell (Nymphomaniac) as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Doctor Doom, Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards) as Dr. Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk) as Harvey Elder/Mole Man.
