Simon Pegg will co-write Star Trek 3

January 22, 2015 by Robert Kojder

Originally published January 22, 2015. Updated April 13, 2018.

Simon Pegg is already a key component to the J.J. Abrams rebooted Star Trek universe, and for the third film it seems he will be taking on additional responsibilities, namely the important task of penning the script.

Writing isn’t anything new for Simon Pegg, as he is helped Edgar Wright put together the successful Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End). Pegg’s partner in scribing will be Doug Jung, creator of the TNT series Dark Blue and a writer for the movie Diamond, which was also a Bad Robot/Paramount production.

This all comes off of Roberto Orci recently leaving the director’s chair with Fast And Furious 5/6 helmer Justin Lin stepping in. Putting together a team of directors and writers for Star Trek 3 has been a rocky experience, but things seem to finally be cementing themselves in stone.

Star Trek 3 is set for release on July 8th, 2016.
