Simu Liu promises that Marvel’s Shang-Chi will “deliver action sequences in a way fans have never seen before”

May 22, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

Simu Liu is set to become the first Asian actor to lead a Marvel Studios movie this year when he brings the titular hero to life in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Given that the character is known as the Master of Kung Fu, it seems safe for fans to go into Shang-Chi expect get plenty of exciting martial arts action alongside all of the traditional Marvel razzmatazz, and based on his recent comments to E! Online, Liu is extremely confident that the movie will deliver when it comes to its action sequences.

“I promise that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is going to deliver action sequences in a way that MCU fans, or any fans, have never seen before, and that is [a] personal promise,” said Liu. “You can stamp it, you can quote it, you can guarantee it. You guys are in for a treat, for sure.”

This is all I wanted as a kid, as a 6-year-old, maybe even as a 16-year-old, if I’m honest. And to see that full circle moment is incredible. I keep expecting the clock to strike midnight, and for my carriage to turn into a pumpkin.”

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy) and stars Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) as Shang-Chi, Tony Leung (Infernal Affairs) as Wenwu, Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) as Katy, newcomer Meng’er Zhang as Xialing, Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery) as Jiang Nan, Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians) as Jon Jon, Fala Chen (The Undoing) as Jiang Li, Florian Munteanu (Creed II) as Razor Fist and Dallas Liu (Pen15) in an undisclosed role.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for release on September 3rd 2021.
