Slow Horses Season 5 Episode 4 Review – ‘Missiles’

October 16, 2025 by Chris Connor

Chris Connor reviews the fourth episode of Slow Horses season 5…

The previous episode of Slow Horses saw Slough House on lockdown and tensions continuing to escalate, and episode four, ‘Missiles’, sees Ho’s continued questioning at The Park, this time with Flyte leading the charge. Ruth Bradley and Chris Chung a treat to watch. Does Ho now realise the gravity of the situation or is he still blinded by his support for Tara?

We see Jackson Lamb doing some legwork of his own, investigating Tara’s whereabouts and spotting clues that were easily missed by River and JK earlier in the series. This is a refreshing glimpse at Lamb in the field and easy to see why he became such a service legend.

With Claude under continued pressure from Gimbell and his wife, he pays them a visit. James Callis has some of his finest moments in this season, as ever we’re never sure whether Claude has turned a corner and has the upper hand. It makes for a fascinating exchange, with both sides one upping the other.

Plot wise, we are heavily focused on two rallies, one from Gimbell and one from the incumbent Mayor. Which will be targeted remains up in the air and with Shirley and Standish on Jaffrey’s are the Slow Horses outmatched? This leads to some fun exchanges and a real race against the clock, adding impetus and stakes. JK and River are tasked with Gimbell’s rally, and the ensuing chaos completely upends our expectations for this season, book fans knowing what to expect but will prove genuinely shocking for many watching at home.

With just two episodes remaining ‘Missiles’ moves the plot forward, answering some lingering fan questions, while moving at a consistent and frenetic lick, and retaining the wonderful blend of drama and black comedy. The ending is one for the ages, wonderfully setting up a chaotic, breathless final two episodes.
