Sony drops Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs movie

November 20, 2014 by James Garcia

In a bit of shocking news, Sony has dropped Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle’s upcoming Steve Jobs film. Though details are limited, a source from THR claims that Boyle needed the film to begin production in January, but Sony couldn’t commit to that start date. Also, it appears that Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison, who was involved as a partner on the film, backed out.

This isn’t the first roadblock the film has faced thus far, Sony had quite a bit of trouble with finding an actor to play the former Apple founder; Leonardo diCaprio and Christian Bale were involved at one point, but passed. Recent reports put Michael Fassbender in the role.

Despite Sony dropping the film, there is still hope that it will get picked up by another studio. Universal is currently regarded as the frontrunner and is interested in getting the movie made in time for next year’s awards season.

We’ll of course keep you posted about any new details regarding this curious Steve Jobs movie as they become available.
