Spider-Man: Homecoming adds Beasts of No Nation star Abraham Attah

June 22, 2016 by Justin Cook

The cast of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming just can’t seem to stop growing, as Deadline reports that young Beasts of No Nation star Abraham Attah has signed on to the film in an unknown role.

Attah’s performance in last year’s Beasts of No Nation earned him an enormous amount of praise, with many viewers labeling him as a talent to look out for. The 15-year-old actor garnered nominations from various award ceremonies, including the Young Artist Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Critics Choice Awards. He even took home an Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead and tied at the National Board of Review, USA for Breakthrough Performance with Room star Jacob Tremblay.

While Homecoming is certainly the most high-profile project on the horizon for the actor, he will also appear in Shane Caruth’s third film, succeeding Primer and Upstream Color, The Modern Ocean.

In a recent interview, director Jon Watts (Cop Car) expressed how important it was to him to put together a “diverse” cast, considering how Peter Parker goes to “high school in Queens,” and the New York City borough is one of the “most diverse places in the world.” Those involved with the project have been doing an excellent job of assembling a cast of very talented actors and actresses from various backgrounds and walks of life, as proven by the addition of Attah, a Ghanaian teenager, and many others.

Spider-Man: Homecoming sees Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Aunt May. They’ll be joined by Marvel regular Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, alongside Michael Keaton (Birdman), Michael Barbieri (Little Men), Zendaya (K.C. Undercover), Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus), Martin Starr (Silicon Valley), Donald Glover (Community), Laura Harrier (One Life to Live), Kenneth Choi (Captain America: The First Avenger), Hannibal Buress (Broad City), Isabella Amara (The Boss), Jorge Lendeborg, Jr. (Graceland), JJ Totah (Glee) and Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation). It is set for release on July 7th, 2017.
