Spider-Man: Far From Home’s mid-credits reveal originally happened earlier in the film

July 12, 2019 by Samuel Brace

It has been revealed that the big twist in Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s mid-credits scene originally happened earlier in the movie.

Far From Home had plenty of twists and turns to keep fans entertained but one of the biggest shocks was certainly Peter being outed as Spider-Man by Mysterio via J. Jonah Jameson. Taking place in the mid-credits scene, this was an exciting note to finish on.

However, co-writer Chris McKenna has revealed to ComicBook.com that the initial plan was to have Peter’s identity revealed far earlier: “We were wondering, ‘Are we going as deep as we need to at the end of the movie?’ We played with the idea that Peter is the one who sacrifices his identity out of necessity during the final battle, then it seemed more interesting if Mysterio tricks him into doing it, but any time we wrote a version where he was being revealed to the world in that battle, it felt like it diminished the victory. So before it became a tag, it was really just the end of the movie: Right as he feels he’s stepping up as Spider-Man, he has the rug pulled out from under him again.”

Co-writer Erik Sommers added: “We were definitely debating, should we just reveal who Spider-Man is, or should we frame him for something and turn him into a pariah? Ultimately, we decided that both was the way to go. It’s such a triumph at the end because he’s got the girl and finally earned a big swing through the city, so we want to knock him down as far as possible.”

It was certainly an entertaining way to end the movie and sets up the next installment pretty perfectly. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we get to see how events unfold.

Peter Parker returns in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the next chapter of the Spider-Man: Homecoming series! Our friendly neighborhood Super Hero decides to join his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang on a European vacation. However, Peter’s plan to leave super heroics behind for a few weeks are quickly scrapped when he begrudgingly agrees to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, creating havoc across the continent!

Spider-Man: Far From Home features the return of Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Zendaya (Michelle), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Angourie Rice (Betty Brant), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Martin Star (Mr. Harrington), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), with Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) as Mysterio.
