Star Trek: Lower Decks casts Paul Scheer in recurring role

Deadline has revealed  that Paul Scheer (The League) has joined the upcoming half-hour animated comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks in what will be a recurring role.

Scheer will portray Lt. Commander Andy Billups, the chief engineer on the USS Cerritos and the boss of Eugene Cordero’s Ensign Rutherford. The role will see him recur throughout the 10-episode season. Lower Decks will follow the lower-level officers serving aboard Starfleet vessels in their day-to-day settings with a comedic twist on the Star Trek franchise.

Star Trek: Lower Decks focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380. Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.

Star Trek: Lower Decks has been created by Emmy-winner Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites) and features a voice cast that includes Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, Eugene Cordero, Dawnn Lewis, Jerry O’Connell, Fred Tatasciore, and Gillian Vigman.
