Star Wars Rebels’ final season will not feature Rogue One’s Battle of Scarif

April 18, 2017 by Ricky Church

Since the little Easter eggs in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story revealed that Hera Syndulla and her trusty droid Chopper, along with their ship, the Ghost, take part in the film’s Battle of Scarif, fans have wondered if we’d eventually see the events of Rogue One play out in Star Wars Rebels. Creator Dave Filoni had previously suggested that he’d be interested in exploring that very possibility, however he has now confirmed it will not be taking place in the upcoming fourth and final season of Rebels.

Asked by ABC News over Celebration Orlando about the possibility, Filoni shut the idea down pretty quickly: “I wouldn’t like hanging the entire series we’ve done and the characters on something else we’ve already seen. And while I can understand as a fan it would be interesting to have that be the Battle of Scarif, that’s purely to be for continuity. There would have to be something really epic my guys are doing in that battle and if there was something epic it should have been in the movie.”

“I’ve never looked at Rebels as something that has to rely on the other films,” Filoni continued. “If you started with Rebels you can watch the entire thing and never see any of the movies and still get the spirit of what Star Wars is and how it all works. That’s true from beginning to end of it. It does not rely on the others, but if you’ve seen the others it enriches the experience and you can go deeper with it.”

While its a little disappointing we won’t see what exactly Hera’s role was during the Battle of Scarif, its at least understandable why Filoni would rather craft the end of Rebels around something he’s thought of rather than a battle from another Star Wars film, much less one we already know the outcome of. Not only do we know the Death Star will eventually be destroyed, but we also know that most of the Rebel forces do not escape Scarif thanks to Darth Vader’s timely arrival.

Are you disappointed we won’t see Rogue One from Hera’s perspective or are you glad that Ezra, Kanan and the rest of the Ghost crew will get their own ending? Let us know below…
