Having already shattered a host of UK records in its opening weekend, Disney and Lucasfilm’s blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens has now become the first film in history to gross over £50 million in its first seven days of release.
The result means that within just one week Star Wars: The Force Awakens has over taken the entire lifetime box office of Avengers Age of Ultron, Frozen, The Dark Knight, Fifty Shades of Grey, The King’s Speech, four of the eight Harry Potter films and every instalment of the Hunger Games and Twilight franchises.

The Force Awakens is currently on £51.4 million here in the UK, and has now passed $750 million worldwide. Expect the film to hit the billion dollar mark globally over the Christmas weekend, which would make it the fastest movie to hit that milestone.
UPDATE: As of close of play yesterday, The Force Awakens is now sitting on $765.9 million worldwide.
