Star Wars: The Last Jedi is “more ominous” than The Force Awakens, says Daisy Ridley

May 4, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Star Wars star Daisy Ridley has said to expect The Last Jedi to be “more ominous” than the proceeding The Force Awakens.

The consensus prediction is that Episode VIII will indeed be darker than Episode VII, that is if you follow the New Hope/Empire Strikes Back logic.

The first trailer already indicated at some of this, with a sinister and foreboding tone permeating the footage.

And now in an interview with The Star Wars Show during Celebration Orlando, Ridley briefly commented on the subject herself, saying simply that things are “more ominous” than what was presented in The Force Awakens.

She didn’t elaborate beyond that, but again, it only makes sense. Narrative wise we know that the First Order will be looking to hit back after the destruction of Starkiller Base, and second films do tend to be darker in tone, setting up a triumphant return for the heroes in the third movie.

Fortunately, we are getting closer every day to finding out for ourselves just how desperate things will be a galaxy far, far away.
