During Sunday’s Star Wars: Visions panel at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, Lucasfilm shared some information about its animated anthology series, revealing not only that the third volume will premiere on Disney+ in October, but also that a spinoff based around the season one episode ‘The Ninth Jedi’ is also in the works.
As announced by Visions executive producer James Waugh, the upcoming third season will include sequels/continuations to three season one shorts, with ‘The Ninth Jedi’ joined by ‘The Duel’ and ‘The Village Bride’. The storyline of ‘The Ninth Jedi’ will then continue in its own spinoff series, the first under a new Star Wars: Visions Presents banner designed to allow Visions filmmakers the opportunity to explore more longform storytelling.
Written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama (The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim) and produced by Production IG (Ghost in the Shell), the official description for the ‘The Ninth Jedi’ episode of Star Wars: Visions reads: “The daughter of a lightsaber-smith is pursued by dark forces while on a dangerous mission.”
