Steven Soderbergh and Andre Holland to reunite for sports drama High Flying Bird

February 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Coming hot on the heels of the news that Steven Soderbergh is set to produce and potentially direct the action thriller Planet Kill for Studio 8, The Film Stage is reporting that the filmmaker has now added another project to his upcoming slate.

According to the site, Soderbergh is set to reunite with his The Knick star Andre Holland for High Flying Bird, a sports drama which will see Holland taking on the role of Dean, an agent who presents his rookie client Erick Scott with an intriguing and controversial business opportunity during an NBA lockout. The script has been penned by Tarell Alvin McCraney, the Oscar-winning co-writer of Moonlight, which also starred Holland.

Soderbergh is soon to release his latest project Unsane, which was shot completely on an iPhone – something that the filmmaker has suggested he believes is the future of film. With High Flying Bird’s shoot set to last just two weeks, it seems possible that Soderbergh will be getting his smartphone out again for this one.
