We still feel the aftershocks of the Hollywood strikes, as Marvel lost a major player for one of its upcoming projects.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Steven Yeun is no longer attached to Thunderbolts from Marvel Studios.
With schedules in disarray after the dual writer and actor strikes of 2023, adjustments have been made, and Yeun is no longer available for the superhero team-up film. While the studio never confirmed it, it was rumored that the actor was set to play Sentry, one of the MCU’s most powerful heroes.
This project would’ve reunited the actor and director Jake Schreier, who previously teamed for the Netflix series Beef. Yeun is still set for a busy 2024 with Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 and Love Me, starring Kristen Stewart.
Thunderbolts was initially set for release in July 2024. Filming has yet to begin, but actor Wyatt Russell revealed a potential spring start date.
Thunderbolts sees director Jake Schreier helming the project. Little is known about the plot, but the film will follow a group of villains-turned-heroes sent on missions commissioned by the government. Joining the cast are Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.
Thunderbolts is set for release on July 25th 2025.
