Strangers on a Train remake on hold, Gillian Flynn says “we’ll see”

July 23, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

After the massive success of the film adaptation of her best-selling novel Gone Girl last year, author Gillian Flynn is in hot demand. Another of her stories, Dark Places, is set for release later this month in the US, but one project on her horizon has been put on the backburner.

Flynn and Gone Girl director David Fincher were keen to work on a new project together, with a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train announced earlier this year which would reunite the duo with Gone Girl star Ben Affleck. However, since then the trio have had their schedules fill up quickly: Affleck is set to direct Live By Night as well as star in a new solo Batman film, while Flynn and Fincher are preparing the remake of British TV show Utopia for HBO.

“We’re all so overcommitted right now that we’ll see on that one,” Flynn told Vulture when speaking about the proposed remake. Whether or not we see the Strangers on a Train remake in the future remains to be seen, but its clear the trio would jump at the chance to make the film together.

Dark Places, the adaptation of Flynn’s novel, stars Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Christina Hendricks, Corey Stoll, Tye Sheridan and Chloe Grace Moretz, and is released in US cinemas on August 7th. Watch the trailer here.
