Stranger Things renewed for season 3, season 4 will likely be its last

August 22, 2017 by Justin Cook

Roughly two months ahead of its season 2 debut, Netflix has already picked up its smash hit show Stranger Things for a third season. Series creators/writers/directors Matt and Ross Duffer (or as they’re better known, the Duffer brothers) confirmed the renewal to Vulture while they were being interviewed for a profile piece.

The duo spoke on how the second season will do what many successful sequels do and kick things up a notch. “I told Matt, ‘I don’t want to call it season two, I just want it to feel like a movie sequel,'” Ross told the outlet. “If you have a successful movie, No. 2 is always a little bit bigger.”

When the conversation turned toward the season 3 renewal, the brothers shared their ultimate plan for the show. “We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out,” Ross admitted. Matt chimed in, “We just have to keep adjusting the story. Though I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.”

As for the young characters’ futures, Ross added, “They’re going to have to get the f**k out of this town! It’s ridiculous!”

Stranger Things will have no problem getting the season 4 greenlight from Netflix, given how the show has become a pop culture phenomenon just over the course of the past year and is one of the streaming service’s most-watched shows ever. There are very few scenarios where Stranger Things doesn’t get to run for as long as it pleases.

Are you sad that Stranger Things may only have two more seasons left in the can after this upcoming one, or do you want to see the show end before it even so much as risks becoming stale? Tell us in the comments below!

It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

The second season of Stranger Things sees the return of cast members Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobbie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery, along with new additions Sean Astin (The Goonies), Paul Reiser (Aliens), Linnea Berthelsen (The Desert), Sadie Sink (Odyssey), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers) and Brett Gelman (Brett Gelman’s Dinner in America). It will hit Netflix on October 27th.
