Deadline is reporting that Boston Marathon bombing film Patriot’s Day has added Melissa Benoist to its ranks as production continues in Boston.
Benoist, who plays Supergirl in the hit television series, is set to portray Katherine Russell, the wife of one of the bombers Tamerlan Tsaraev. She joins the impressive ensemble for the film, which includes Mark Wahlberg (Daddy’s Home), John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane), Kevin Bacon (Black Mass), Michelle Monaghan (True Detective), Rachel Brosnahan (Louder Than Bombs) and J.K Simmons (Whiplash).
Peter Berg (Deepwater Horizon) is directing the film which has been written by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies), and “will follow the events leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and its aftermath, including the city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists behind it.”
Patriot’s Day is set for release on December 21st.
