Swamp Thing casts Jennifer Beals in recurring role

September 29, 2018 by Ricky Church

DC Universe’s Swamp Thing has added another member to its growing cast. Variety reports that Jennifer Beals (The L Word) has joined the series in a recurring guest role for the supernatural series from Len Wiseman, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman and James Wan.

Beals will star as Sheriff Lucilia Cable. Tough as nails and pragmatic, Cable’s fierce devotion to her son, Matt, is rivalled only by her sworn duty to serve and protect the town of Marais. As the community she has dedicated her life to defending is beset by strange forces, she must double down in her efforts to safeguard everyone she holds dear.

Beals joins a cast that includes Crystal Reed and Maria Sten as Abby Arcane and Liz Tremayne respectively. It has also been rumoured that Friday the 13th‘s Derek Mears, who played the infamous killer Jason in the reboot, will star as Swamp Thing. The series will employ a practical costume for the creature and is aiming for a “hard R rating” with graphic violence.

Swamp Thing follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be gone after all.

The pilot for Swamp Thing is being directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld), while the cast so far includes Crystal Reed (Gotham) as Abby Arcane and Maria Sten (Channel Zero) as Liz Tremayne.
