Sylvester Stallone joins James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad

November 15, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Director James Gunn is bringing a number of his Marvel Cinematic Universe pals over to the DC Extended Universe for The Suicide Squad, with the likes of Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, David Dastmalchian, Steve Agee, Nathan Fillion and Taika Waititi all set to feature in the cast of Task Force X’s second big screen outing.

Well, we can now add another name to the reunion, as Gunn has taken to social media to announce that his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast member Sylvester Stallone will feature in The Suicide Squad.

https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1327748309298020353?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1327748309298020353%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.comicbookmovie.com%2Famp%2Fsuicide_squad%2Fthe_suicide_squad%2Fthe-suicide-squad-adds-sylvester-stallone-in-a-mystery-role-reuniting-him-with-gotg-2-director-james-gunn-a180046

There’s no word on Stallone’s role in The Suicide Squad, but given that principal photography wrapped before the lockdown, his involvement is likely to be limited to a brief cameo or voice work.

Meanwhile, Gunn and Stallone could find themselves working together again soon on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 seemingly setting up his character Stakar Ogord and his newly-formed Ravager team for future appearances in the MCU.

The Suicide Squad sees James Gunn directing a cast that includes Suicide Squad returnees Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) as well as new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland, David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, and Sylvester Stallone.
