Taylor Swift joins David O. Russell’s untitled ensemble film

June 2, 2021 by Ricky Church

As if David O. Russell’s untitled ensemble film wasn’t big enough, it just got even bigger as superstar pop and country singer Taylor Swift has joined the film.

The news comes as the film has apparently wrapped production. It will be released through 20th Century Fox later this year and not just the title, but the film’s story is being kept under wraps.

Swift is coming off a pretty big year in her career as she developed and produced two albums, folklore and evermore, as well as the documentary folklore: the long pond studio sessions on Disney+ in 2020. She recently re-released her first album as Fearless (Taylor’s Version) as the first of a series of re-recordings in the wake of the controversy over the master recordings of her songs being sold.

Swift joins a very huge and impressive cast that includes Christian Bale (The Dark Knight), Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad), John David Washington (Tenet), Rami Malek (No Time to Die), Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy), Robert De Niro (The Irishman), Mike Myers (Austin Powers), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Shannon (Knives Out), Chris Rock (Spiral), Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit), Andrea Riseborough (Possessor), Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) and Alessandro Nivola (The Red Sea Diving Resort) are all rounding out this jam-packed ensemble cast.

The five-time Oscar nominee David O. Russell hasn’t directed a film since 2015’s Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence. Russell is known for films like American Hustle, Three Kings, The Fighter, and Silver Linings Playbook. The filmmaker is also known for the recent controversy about his on-set behaviour in the past. Amazon was working with David O. Russell but then abandoned its plans to work with him on an expensive TV series that would have starred Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore. He hasn’t directed a project since these allegations.
