A Discovery of Witches and Hacksaw Ridge star Teresa Palmer has been cast in Prime Video’s adaptation of PlayStation’s blockbuster videogame God of War.
The news comes hot on the heels of Ryan Hursts casting as the game’s iconic protagonist Kratos, with Deadline revealing that Palmer is set to play Phoebe/Sif, Thor’s wife and the goddess of the family.
Mentioned in 2018’s God of War, she was introduced as a secondary character in the 2022 video game sequel God of War Ragnarök, with the official description of Sif stating that she “is a prominent Aesir diplomat associated with family and earth, known for her beautiful golden hair and dissatisfaction with Odin.”
From writer, showrunner and executive producer Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, For All Mankind), God of War follows father and son, Kratos (Hurst) and 10-year-old Atreus, as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
The first two episodes of God of War will be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys), and with filming set to get underway in March you can expect further casting announcements in the coming weeks.
