Tessa Thompson joins Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone in Creed

December 18, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Selma star Tessa Thompson has joined the cast of Creed, the upcoming Rocky spin-off from director Ryan Coogler, which is set to reunite him with Fruitvale Station star Michael B. Jordan as the grandson of Carl Weathers’ Apollo Creed. Sylvester Stallone will also feature in the cast, reprising the role of the now-retired Italian Stallion, as well as real life boxers Andre Ward and Tony Bellew.

The synopsis for Creed reads: “Raised in an upper-crust home thanks to the ring riches earned by his grandfather, the young man doesn’t have to box and his family doesn’t want him to. Yet, he has the natural instinct and gifts and potential that made his grandfather the heavyweight champion until Rocky Balboa took his crown in 1979′s Rocky II. Creed’s grandson needs a mentor and turns to Balboa, who is out of boxing completely and not eager to return.”
