Thanos creator Jim Starlin believes the Mad Titan will make a “guest appearance” in Eternals

January 24, 2021 by Gary Collinson

He may have been beheaded by Thor and dusted by Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, but it seems we may not have seen the last of the Mad Titan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Appearing on the Phase Zero podcast, Thanos co-creator Jim Starlin has suggested that the character will be making a “guest appearance” in the upcoming Eternals movie (via Screen Rant):

“I believe I heard some rumors that he’s [Thanos] coming back in different things,” said Starlin. “I think I’ve heard…confirmed from Marvel Studios is that he’s going to be…at least a guest appearance inside the Eternals, so he’s gonna be around. This is not anything I’m making up. This is something I’ve read somewhere.”

Although Starlin mentions that he’s heard directly from Marvel Studios, he also seems to indicate that he could be referring to rumours he’s read online, so it’s a little unclear how reliable this information is.

However, it’s not the first time that Starlin has talked about Thanos being in Eternals, and given his comic book links to the race of superhumans (he’s born an Eternal, albeit carrying the Deviants gene – that of their enemies), it certainly isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that he does make an appearance of some kind. Assuming Eternals sticks to its current release date, we shall find out for sure in November…

Marvel Studios’ Eternals features an exciting new team of Super-Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.

Eternals is directed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and features a cast that includes Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), Richard Madden (Bodyguard), Don Lee (Train to Busan), Salma Hayek (The Hitman’s Bodyguard), Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead), Brian Tyree Henry (Child’s Play), Lia McHugh (American Woman), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Gemma Chan (Captain Marvel) and Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk).
