The Best TV Moments of 2018

November 25, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Samuel Brace on the best TV moments of 2018 (spoilers follow)…

So, here we are, 2018 drawing to a close. What a year it’s been for TV, although, it certainly didn’t start off that way. But 2018 eventually got its act together and in the end delivered an incredibly strong season of TV. Before we get to the best show of the year and the best new show of the year, however, it will probably be prudent of us to first highlight some of the very best TV moments that brought us to this moment. 2018 has been replete with memorable scenes and sequences on the small screen but which ones stand out above all others? Continue on to read about the five best TV moments of 2018.

BoJack gives a eulogy – BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman proved itself to be more than just a silly animated comedy years ago but season five of the show took things to a whole new level, delivering the dramatic goods in a wonderful way. However, there was no better moment from the season than in the episode ‘Free Churro’ where the camera lasers in on BoJack for almost the entire episode while he is giving a eulogy for his deceased mother. It’s a tremendous moment, both dark and funny and incredibly moving, a sequence that allows BoJack to get everything off his chest regarding this most difficult of relationships. The scene is made even better when BoJack realises at the end, after savaging his dead mother, that he is speaking at the wrong funeral… Of course, he is.

Daredevil apprehends Fisk – Daredevil

Daredevil season 3 contains many memorable moments but when thinking of top quality TV in 2018, one scene that instantly comes to mind is Matt finally apprehending Fisk towards the show’s climax. While Fisk has been caught before, this time it felt like a far more colossal effort. The scene, taking place in Fisk’s penthouse, has it all: a bloody and exhausting three-way fight between Daredevil, Fisk, and Bullseye, and an emotional verbal exchange between Matt and Wilson that boils the entire season down to one moment. The image of Matt screaming at a beaten and broken Fisk is searing, our hero wanting to finish him once and for all but refusing to destroy his soul by stooping to the villain’s level. It’s brilliant and is a well-deserved entry on this list of great 2018 TV moments.
