The Conjuring comes home as TV series in development at Max

April 13, 2023 by EJ Moreno

As HBO Max retools itself as the fresh new Max, the streaming service looks to offer up some fan-favorite hits to keep viewers hooked.

Horror fans especially will enjoy the latest news, as The Conjuring will head to the small screen for the first time and will launch a new television series. The new co-head of WBD’s DC Studios, Peter Safran, will executive produce, as Safran originally started in the horror division alongside James Wan. Wan is reportedly in talks to return as an executive producer.

No writer is currently attached to the project. Little is known about the show’s plot at the time of writing. Max does note the series will “continue the story established in the feature films.”

For those wondering, the film franchise is one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s crown jewels, with the eight films in the horror series grossing more than $2 billion at the box office worldwide. This series could likely become a global hit, adding to HBO’s legacy of prestige television experiences.

There’s no word if Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will appear. The pair are set to appear in an upcoming fourth installment in The Conjuring film franchise.

The next Conjuring Universe film is The Nun 2, set for release this September. Michael Chaves directs the Taissa Farmiga-led film from producers James Wan, Peter Safran, and Judson Scott.
