The CW rebooting The 4400

November 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that The CW is in development on a reboot of the cult sci-fi series The 4400 from CBS TV Studios, with original series writer and supervising producer Craig Sweeny and Taylor Elmore (Justified) serving as co-writers and executive producers.

Created by Scott Peters and Rene Echevarria, The 4400 aired on USA Network for four seasons between 2004 and 2007, and followed four thousand four hundred people who had disappeared in a beam of light over the past fifty years, only for all of them to reappear in the present, exactly the same age as they were when they disappeared, and with no recollection of events. The returnees – dubbed the ‘4400’ – have to grapple with their return to a changed world, along with the realisation that they have been altered in ways they don’t fully understand.

Sweeny and Elmore will write the pilot for the reboot, while Elmore – whose other credits include Limitless and the upcoming CBS series Blood & Treasure – will serve as showrunner should it move forward to series.
