The Flash Season 2 Episode 13 Review – ‘Welcome to Earth-2’

February 10, 2016 by Jessie Robertson

Jessie Robertson reviews the thirteenth episode of The Flash season 2…

I got no spit- that is the thing that happens before any truly scary moment, such as hunting a massive great white shark or jumping into a portal to another Earth.

Tonight’s episode was so filled with Easter Eggs, hints, and crazy connections, I almost just want to vamp about every single one we saw instead of talking about the actual plot of this episode! The Flash has been slow jogging the last few weeks but this was a full-out sprint breaking walls and anything in its way! The group sends Harry, Barry and Cisco over to Earth 2 to try and help reclaim Jesse from Zoom. Once they arrive, Cisco realizes there’s a different frequency to Earth-2 and his Vibe goggles won’t work. Barry gets the bright idea to kidnap E-2 Barry and disguise himself as him to investigate further. This is where it gets crazy. We find out:

– Barry still works for the CCPD and is married to Iris, who is actually a detective in the CCPD. Her partner is Floyd Lawton and he’s a very bad shot.
– Joe is a lounge singer who headlines at Jitterbugs (E-1’s Jitters) and doesn’t like Barry (sorry, Bartholemew) at all, like not even a little.
– Oh, Captain Singh is a criminal and Leonard Snart is apparently the Mayor of Central City.
– Tokamok on E-1 is Dr. Wells assistant, not a crazed lunatic.
– Nora Allen (Barry’s mom) is still alive on E-2 and Atlantis is apparently a vacation destination. Also, Barry has some really cool friends on speed dial, namely Bruce (Wayne), Diana (Prince), and Hal (Jordan).

*Ok have I fan-boyed enough for you? No Flash episode is complete without the villain of the week and on E-2 it’s a doozy! Caitlin and Ronnie’s counterparts are actually still lovers but they’re just really bad- or should I say hot and cold. Behold Killer Frost and Deathstorm. Besides looking really cool, and being doppelgängers of characters we love from E-1, they are pretty stock and apparently working for Zoom. We also meet Cisco from E-2, called Reverb and he’s evil! And he’s crazy cool. Unfortunately, he and Ronnie (never works out for that guy) bite it from Zoom who sees their attack on Flash as a breach of his code to leave the speedsters to him. Back on E-1, a villain named Geomancer who can cause huge earthquakes is after the Flash and goes on a tear through the city looking for him. It’s only up to Joe and a newly powered Jay to stop him, which doesn’t go very well at all.

All this craziness made for a fast paced and exciting episode where trying to catch the next Easter Egg was just as important as seeing what they were throwing at you next.

9.5/10- So much coolness! Great acting from everyone on the cast for playing dual roles (especially Joe, who can sing like a mofo!) and especially from the Cisco-Cisco interaction.

Other Notes:
– Joe can sing! He also can put you in tears on the drop of a dime and watching his E-2 self pass on was gut wrenching.
– Hands down, best moment of the episode was Floyd Lawton standing no more than a foot in front of Reverb and emptying his chamber at him, missing every single shot!
– “Are you Cloud City Vader-ing me right now?”
– As our heroes pass into the portal to E-2, so many crazy images were shown: a Green Arrow, a Flash (the original TV version), CBS’ Supergirl. We also saw Grodd (no doubt conquering his world) and Jonah Hex, as well as someone holding up a Legion Flight Ring (which gives you induction into the Legion of Super-Heroes, a team from the future).
