The Flash Season 2 Episode 6 Review – ‘Enter Zoom’

November 11, 2015 by Jessie Robertson

Jessie Robertson reviews the sixth episode of The Flash season 2…

Linda Park, in her infinite wisdom, answers the question we all want to know: is it better to be a superhero or to just have made out with one?

Lind Park, superhero? (condensed) I smile for two reasons tonight; one being Linda Park not just becoming a throwaway character from Season 1 who shared a name with a major Flash character; and with the presumption that Iris ” brother” will be back, I know Linda’s here to stay. The second is her training montage and “staging” with the Flash; Speaking in any kind of reality, Joe is 100% right; the plan is nuts and she’s awfully bad at what she’s attempting to do. I mean, Barry can’t even lay still (as he fell uncomfortably) but it’s still so much fun to watch. We apparently still haven’t gotten past the darkness in Barry; I like the idea of a troubled hero, to a point where it doesn’t completely change the makeup of the character, but I’m not a fan of the sub-plot where Barry let Well’s words creep into his psyche, saying he’ll never be happy and Barry letting that haunt him at every turn. His character (on the show) is a cheerful, goofy, sometimes naive guy who tries to see the good in people and help anyone he can. I can’t subscribe to the notion that the off-hand words of the murderer of his mother speaking for him would put him in such a sustained dour state. Perhaps not; perhaps I’m pontificating on nothing as he did show Patty he will be the maker of his own happiness; I guess we’ll see where the new plot of “I can’t feel my legs” takes us, whether in that direction or elsewhere.

Meanwhile, on Earth-2…. We learned more about Harrison Wells’ daughter this week; she’s Jesse Quick! Jesse Quick is a speedster like her comic book father (Johnny Quick) who learned a chemical formula that gave them super speed. How all that will play out or if at all, I have no idea (is Harry a closet speedster?) but they’re one little scene together did set up some interesting tension. Wells speaking out his inner monologue was weird though. Harrison Wells continues to be probably the most layered, secretive, interesting character on Flash and he’s in a different incarnation. Kavanaugh gets to play him a little less sinister and a little more openly hostile this season, which he still pulls off, but I continue to wait to see what he does next.

And Enter Indeed Zoom Does! I can recount so many Flash (and Arrow) episodes where they had captured the bad guy or the episode seemed to be ending and BOOM! crazy stuff goes down. This is a return to form of that. Zoom has been around since episode 1 and it was time for him to make an impact. humiliating the Flash in front of his peers and friends was a bit confusing as we’ve been told all along Zoom wanted to kill him, or somehow take his speed from him, but it seems like this approach feels more like a headgame, or someone who wants to take over the Flash’s role in some way. It’s still a frightening scene all around, including Zoom catching Barrys’ lightning bolt!

9.5/10- Classic Flash episode where we’re traveling 60 mph on the freeway, looking at our exit when all of sudden we’re going Mach-90 and losing our f’n minds

Other Notes:
– Anyone notice at what point Barry’s costume was more rounded around the face mask more like the comic book costume? I could just be slow
– Sgt. Slow is a terrible name
– Anyone want to place bets on how many episodes until Patty is brought into the Flash fold? 3, 4 over/ under?
– I would Love to see video of Barry’s high school football tryouts!
– So, The Hood is Robert Quick on Earth-2 and his son Oliver was killed on the island….or was he?
– I like Iris’ take charge attitude; being all for Barry’s plan of throwing Linda into the mix; she’s done a 360 from season one in becoming a strong character
– Cisco’s cardboard cutouts might be the best thing he’s done yet; “how Long you been sitting on these?”
