Jessie Robertson reviews the twenty-first episode of The Flash season 4…
We tackle another DeVoe-less week and instead get more ammunition to deal with his all-knowingness.
The idea this week is that Amunet Black (the always bubbly Katie Sackhoff) isn’t affected by dark matter so they decide to track her down and get her to help take out the satellites. Of course she’s running some back room casino, and using a Southern American accent to disguise herself but after some careful negotiating to get her heavy duty metal back, she’s in. I’m all for this because Caitlin getting scenes is starting to pick up. She’s outright missing Killer Frost at this point and is willing to do anything to get her back, including working with her sometimes mentor, mostly enemy Amunet. The discovery that her old lackey Norvak (tentacle in his eye Guy) took her stuff leads to a pretty dull conclusion as Flash gets poisoned and she cuts the snake thing from his eye but not before handing over a strange metal ball she says should be able to help them.
Caitlin and Black have good chemistry because they are both always wanting something from the other one; Black also has a funny monologue where she just knows Flash is Barry and says take off that ridiculous mask. The episode’s namesake comes from Harry’s new council, the Council of Harrisons (since he’s not smart enough for the Council of Wells anymore). They teach him to look inward and think about it from DeVoe’s perspective which brings him to a conclusion I feel like Iris was getting near already and that is to look to Marlize. I always enjoy the Councils but they didn’t get much more than a smirk out of me tonight and I was a little sad about that.
Also, more Flash secrets….will this team ever learn?
The other big thing happening is Iris is printing an article detailing the whole DeVoe caper to the whole of Central City (although I beg the question, wouldn’t the world at large be concerned about this plot?). Barry and her go back and forth with whether it’s a good idea, but again, like most good husbands, he owns up he should have just agreed to it. And it pays off. Iris’ Twitter feed blows up and DeVoe can’t hide anymore. So, now we’ll get the last 2 episodes where the villain just walks out in front of the hero, no more hiding time. Tonight’s episode was mildly amusing but only made better due to the sheer volume of Caitlin involved as she really has not got her due this season. Also, Cisco’s shirt promoting the Boaty McBoatface launch is one of his better shirts in a super long line of tremendous shirts. Well done.
