The Flash Season 5 Episode 14 Review – ‘Cause and XS’

February 13, 2019 by Jessie Robertson

Jessie Robertson reviews the fourteenth episode of The Flash season 5…

Two good CW Episodes in one week…..what fortune has shined upon us!

The Good:

Another Nora-centric episode… perfect. This is an easy episode though; a lot of the shots are the same, so it’s like a copy and paste art project almost. The idea is Barry has to go away for an hour (well 42 minutes minus commercials) to cook up the meta-gene cure, so it leaves Nora alone as the only speedster. Of course, Cicada strikes and no matter what she does (after trying 52 times- 52, huh?) at lest one member of the team dies; Iris, Ralph, Cisco, Caitlin, and if all of them are spared, it’s Cecile. So, once the team finally realizes what is going on, she has to come clean.

Right before tonight’s episode, I caught a story circulating online that this is Carlos Valdes’ (Cisco) last season. Sad face. The show will be empty many laughs if that is to happen. But, I loved tonight we got a high Cisco volume as he tries time after time to successfully navigate a first date with Camilla, the cute bartender he met a few weeks ago. It’s very Flash comedy as after being school by the “Book of Ralph” the frightening binder Ralph keeps on how to meet women and get them to fall for you, Cisco gets a bit freaked out at Camilla’s past boyfriends so it’s one character after another he can’t maintain because it’s not him. So we get a classic hero moment where he and Nora sit down together, literally spelling out the exposition until they realize they know everything that is going to happen tonight, so they can plan ahead.

The Not as Good Stuff:

Ugh…Cicada. His lines and delivery tonight were puke inducing. And did his outfit change? Worst villain ever in Flash history.

Still no Joe. If we lose Cisco, at least give us Joe!

Barry’s coffee cup analogy….there are so many instances on this show where that’s not true or they don’t want it to be so there’s a way they explain it away. Now, I’m guessing Nora’s 52 tries are going to somehow tie into making Barry disappear and helping destroy Cicada is going to leave room for Thawne to either escape or kill Barry on his own. Either way… Shark v. Grodd!!! is coming.

Rating: 7.7/10
