The Get Down star cast in Pokemon movie Detective Pikachu

November 17, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

Originally published November 17, 2017. Updated April 15, 2018.

For all its faults, the now defunct Netflix series The Get Down gave us a stunning ensemble cast, and according to Variety, one of the breakouts, Justice Smith, has been given the lead in the first live-action Pokémon movie, Detective Pikachu.

Goosebumps and Monsters vs. Aliens director Rob Letterman will work from a script written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls).

Universal Pictures will handle distribution of the live-action film outside Japan, with The Pokémon Company’s long time movie collaborator Toho distributing in Japan.

Smith can be seen next in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, while there’s no details of a release date for Detective Pikachu.

Is a live action Pokémon movie something that gets your Jigglypuff twitching, or is this going to be a case of missing the boat on the Pokémon Go phenomenon?
