The Haunting of Hill House cast experienced filming scares, felt crazed, and couldn’t sleep

October 26, 2018 by Samuel Brace

The cast of The Haunting of Hill House have recounted some odd experiences they had while filming the Netflix horror series.

The Haunting of Hill House, Netflix’s latest horror series, is scary enough to watch but what was it like to actually make the show? Well, according to some of the cast, it was a frightening experience and making the show messed with their imaginations.

Speaking to Metro, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, who plays adult Luke in the show, said that he started to see things in his room at night, which unsurprisingly impacted his sleep:

“Obviously you know, because we’re actors, we’ve got stupid imaginations. In prep I started to think that someone was sat at the end of my bed in the night and stupid shit like that.”

Elizabeth Reaser, who plays Shirley, also had a tough time sleeping, saying: “I had no ghostly interactions but I feel like there’s something that happens to your unconscious when you’re pretending like this for nine months. It’s more not being able to sleep, feeling crazed.”

Jackson-Cohen also recounted that much of the cast faced similar problems with regards to sleep: “There was like a week when all of us. We shot for nine months and I remember calling you [Elizabeth] one day and you just hadn’t slept. I just can’t sleep because, like you say, when you’re drumming that stuff up for so long, you kind of get a hang-up on it.”

Well, it looks like the actors can join a lot of the audience when it comes to losing sleep over The Haunting of Hill House. Have you seen the series yet? What did you make of it? Let us know in the comments below…

The Haunting of Hill House is a modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson’s legendary novel of the same name, about five siblings who grew up in the most famous haunted house in America. Now adults, they’re reunited by the suicide of their youngest sister, which forces them to finally confront the ghosts of their own pasts… some which lurk in their minds… and some which may really be lurking in the shadows of the iconic Hill House.

The Haunting of Hill House arrives on Netflix on October 12th.
