The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping adds Ben Wang, Molly McCann and Iona Bell

May 21, 2025 by Ricky Church

The tributes for District 12 have been fully reaped. Joining the ensemble cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping are Ben Wang (Karate Kid: Legends), Molly McCann (The Vanishing Triangle) and Iona Bell (Mandrake) as the remaining District 12 tributes alongside the previously announced Joseph Zada and McKenna Grace.

Wang will play Wyatt Callow, a member of the Callow family who run the betting pool in District 12 for the Hunger Games. McCann will play Louella McCoy, the youngest tribute of District 12 for the Quarter Quell, while Bell will play a mysterious character named Lou Lou.

This news comes shortly after Elle Fanning was announced to play Effie Trinket in the prequel, the character played by Elizabeth Banks in the four original Hunger Games films. Of her casting, Lionsgate co-president Erin Westerman said “From the moment Suzanne released the book, one question echoed from fans around the world: Who will play Effie? Elizabeth Banks made her iconic — so who could honor that legacy while bringing us back to Effie’s early, most formative days? For us, there was only one answer. Elle Fanning’s career has been transcendent. She has a rare presence — warm, sparkling and layered with extraordinary depth. She was the undeniable fan-favorite from the start, and we’re honored she answered the call. The odds, it turns out, were in our favor.”

Released in March by Suzanne Collins, Sunrise on the Reaping takes fans back to the 50th anniversary of the Hunger Games, otherwise known as the Second Quarter Quell, where fan-favourite Haymitch Abernathy was reaped as one of District 12’s four tributes to compete in the game and won, eventually going on to mentor Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark nearly 25 years later in their own Games.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is being directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Joseph Zada (Invisible Boys) as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2) as Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons (Civil War) as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Mufasa: The Lion King) as Beetee, Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) as Wiress, Lili Taylor (Outer Range) as Mags, Ben Wang (Karate Kid: Legends) as Wyatt Callow, Molly McCann (The Vanishing Triangle) as Louella McCoy, Iona Bell (Mandrake) as Lou Lou, Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) as President Snow and Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown) as Effie Trinket.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be released on November 20th, 2026.
