The Nun stars reveal terrifying experiences while making the film

September 7, 2018 by Samuel Brace

The cast of new horror film The Nun has revealed some of their terrifying on-set experiences.

While making a film like The Nun – the next film in the Conjuring universe – there must surely be a very freaky atmosphere permeating the set. This is just what a couple of cast members encountered when filming in an isolated Romanian castle and they have now shared their personal horror stories.

Demián Bichir, who plays Father Anthony Burke in the movie, discussed the experience (via ComicBook.com) of being trapped inside a small space: “It’s not fun to fall into a coffin and be there. I’m comfortable with small spaces but that’s not a good thing. Don’t try that at home, kids.”

And star of the movie Taissa Farmiga, who plays Sister Irene, spoke about her own unsettling moment: “For me, there’s a scene towards the beginning of the movie. We were filming it outside in this castle. It was a wide shot so the camera was way back there so all the crew was far away. I had to start in this little closet and I was holding this lantern. I was terrified because for a good probably a minute, minute and a half, I’m alone. It’s pitch black. I’m waiting for them to call action. I asked for them to send someone to sit with me because I was a little too scared.”

Farmiga also commented on if she has any personal belief in the supernatural: “I don’t have such a black and white outlook. I don’t want it to be real but I also don’t want to offend by saying ‘no’ but I don’t want to say ‘yes’ and open that gateway. I’m content living in my little bubble.”

Are you looking forward to seeing The Nun? How do you think it will match up with past films in the Conjuring universe?

When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in The Conjuring 2, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.

The Nun stars Demian Bichir (A Better Life) as Father Burke, Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) as Sister Irene, Jonas Bloquet (Elle) as local villager Frenchie, Charlotte Hope (Game of Thrones) as the abbey’s Sister Victoria, Ingrid Bisu (Toni Erdmann) as Sister Oana, and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her Conjuring 2 role as Valak.
