The Railway Children Return with sequel to classic 1970 film

May 9, 2021 by Gary Collinson

StudioCanal has announced that filming is about to get underway on The Railway Children Return, a sequel to the beloved 1970 British family film which will see original star Jenny Agutter reprising her role alongside Sheridan Smith, Tom Courtenay, and a new generation of Railway Children.

The Railway Children Return is described as “an enchanting adventure for a new generation bringing a contemporary sensibility to a classic story and combining British cast with stunning locations. The Railway Children Return will take audiences on an exciting and heart-warming journey, in which a group of children are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during World War 2, where they encounter a young soldier, who like them, is far away from home…”

Morgan Matthews (X+Y) is directing The Railway Children Return from a script by Danny Brocklehurst (Come Home), and filming is set to get underway this Monday, taking in a number of key locations from the original film including Oakworth Station, Haworth, The Bronte Parsonage, and the iconic Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

The Railway Children Return is set for release on April 1st 2022.
