The Sinister Six movie could still happen

September 23, 2015 by Luke Owen

After about a year in development, it seemed as though Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six could have been shelved following Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe earlier this year. However, Goddard still believes the film may be alive and well.

“My vision of that movie was a summer annual,” he told io9 in a newly-released interview. “So you didn’t have to worry about continuity. It was just, ‘We take Peter, put him on an adventure, we put him back in his life.’ I intentionally wanted a movie that didn’t have to worry about mythology and continuity. It was important to me to make a movie that could stand on its own. So the good news is, you know, [laughs], it slots in very well to any plan anybody ever wants. We just need to let a couple years go by, I think.”

The rumoured line-up for Sinister Six was: The Vulture, Electro, The Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio and Doctor Octopus. However some emails from the Sony Hack last December revealed that one of those characters could be cut and replaced with The Sandman, as he was a popular character among the Sony higher-uppers. Spider-Man will be getting his own solo movie with Sony Pictures in 2017 as well as being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, kicking off with Captain America: Civil War, so it’s not out of the realms of possibility that Sony could look to further their Spider-verse with a movie based around his rogues gallery.
