The Summer I Turned Pretty to conclude with feature film

September 19, 2025 by Ricky Church

Earlier this week The Summer I Turned Pretty aired its series finale, but it was only a couple of hours after it became available on Prime Video that Amazon MGM Studios announced a feature film is currently in development to send the series off in grander fashion.

Based on the best-selling book trilogy written by Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty follows Isabella ‘Belly’ Conklin, a 16-year-old teenager, as she spends each summer at a special family beach with family friends and is finds herself in a love triangle between herself and two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. As she matures and gets ready for college over the course of the series, she finds her relationships with Conrad, Jeremiah and her family become more complicated as she discovers who she is and what she really wants.

The series stars Lola Tung as Belly, Christopher Briney as Conrad and Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah with Jackie Chung as Belly’s mother Laurel, Sean Kaufman as Belly’s brother Steven and Rachel Blanchard as Conrad and Jeremiah’s mother Susannah.

The series was created by Han and serves as showrunner of her novels’ adaptation. In a statement following the finale, Han said “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” said Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television, at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios in a joint statement. “We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”

Fans will have another lengthy wait for the conclusion to Belly’s story as Han revealed a first draft of the script has been written, but the film is likely not going to be released next year as more time is needed to complete the script as well as allow the young actors to age more into adulthood for the feature film before filming can commence.
