The Walking Dead producer teases Michonne’s possible involvement in the Rick Grimes movies

March 25, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Warning! Spoilers ahead for the latest episode of The Walking Dead…

In the latest episode of The Walking Dead, “What We Become,” Danai Gurira bid farewell to long-running series and the katana-wielding zombie slayer Michonne after eight seasons.

However, The Walking Dead producer Scott Gimple, has teased that the fan-favourite character could potentially reappear in the upcoming movie trilogy alongside Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes.

“With the films, we definitely have plans. But even beyond the current plans, I have some ambitions. I love her and Rick together, but I love seeing her as the pure lead on her own, too,” Gimple said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. It just so happens that there’s a lot of story terrain to cover. But you’re right: it’s ambitions. Right now, the plans have to do with the feature film.”

While Gimple’s comments regarding the future of Michonne are nothing concrete, there are clearly plans circulating at AMC for Danai Gurira and Michonne to return to The Walking Dead universe outside of the television series.

Like Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, Gurira’s Michonne exited the show without being killed off after her character went travelling north to search for Rick after learning he is still alive.
