The world record speedrun for Super Mario Bros. has been beaten – by 0.05 seconds!

October 4, 2016 by admin

Although it was released in 1985, competition for Super Mario Bros. supremacy still wages on with gamers, and a new world record has been set.

A gamer under the name Kosmic claimed on Friday that he’d broken the record held by Darbian of 4 minutes and 57.244 seconds, but then retracted his claim when he noticed lag issues. Now he claims those issues have been resolved and he’s beaten the record – by 0.05 seconds. That’s right, a whole three frames.

You can watch Kosmic’s stream of the speedrun below:

I beat the Super Mario Bros. world record AGAIN! I beat the game in 4:57.194, an improvement of 3 frames (0.05)!https://t.co/kMTUtXCqWs

Darbian retweeted Kosmic’s claim, so it looks like this war is far from over.

This speedrun record of 4 minutes and 57.194 seconds is recognised by Speedrun.com.
