There are no X-Men in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite as fans “maybe don’t even remember” them

June 29, 2017 by Gary Collinson

If you were wondering why there are no X-Men characters in the upcoming fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, the game’s producer Michael Evans has the answer for you, revealing to Gamespot that they didn’t want to include characters who may not be familiar to the modern Marvel fan.

“We talked with Marvel very closely about their future roadmap, about what’s gonna be happening. Your modern Marvel fan, maybe they don’t even remember some of the X-Men characters, but they know some of the Guardians characters or Black Panther. You know what I mean? Captain Marvel may seem like a strange pick, but she’s fantastic. She fits the gameplay. She fits the story, and they’re gonna be really pushing her as a strong female lead all the way up into the movie. We’re trying to take everything into account and choose the best characters.”

Given how popular the likes of Wolverine and Deadpool are, it seems a little strange to suggest that fans won’t be familiar with the X-Men, and seems pretty clear that Marvel is keen to keep the focus on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, rather than ones whose movie rights are controlled by Fox.

Are you disappointed by the lack of X-Men in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

The Capcom and Marvel universes are set to collide once again, pitting the most courageous combatants from each legendary pantheon against one another in a super-powered, bare-knuckle brawl.

Blast your opponents to smithereens with Mega Man X’s signature Buster Gun, break out your inner tech genius with Iron Man’s cutting edge abilities or give your enemies the ultimate beat-down as Captain Marvel.

In the world of the superhuman though, nothing is ever as it seems. The incredible power of the Infinity Stones is yours – and your opponents – to wield in battle, shifting the balance with their unique abilities such manipulating time or unleashing untold power.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 19th.
