Tom Cruise is being courted for the Highlander reboot

November 20, 2014 by James Garcia

According to TheWrap, Summit Entertainment is looking to court Tom Cruise for the role of Juan Ramirez in the Highlander reboot. The role was last played by Sean Connery.

The site notes that, while Cruise is very much on the studio’s radar for the part, “the interest appears to be one-sided.” Cruise, who starred in this year’s sci-fi film Edge of Tomorrow, is often offered big projects,is “far from talks” for this Highlander film, and isn’t focused on future films right now, as he’s busy working on Mission: Impossible 5.

TheWrap notes that the role could very well be beefed up to accommodate a bigger star like Cruise, who doesn’t take smaller, supporting roles very often.

Highlander is being helmed by first-time director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, from a script by Melissa Rosenberg. The project is taking shape under producers Peter Davis, Neal H. Moritz and Justin Lin. The film tells the tale of an immortal Scottish swordsman, on a quest for revenge against a barbarian who’s chased him across time and done battle for an all-powerful Prize.

Tell us, do you think Cruise would be a good fit for the Highlander reboot? And do you think he’d even take the job? Let us know in the comments below…
