Tom Hardy has revealed how Venom’s voice was created

August 7, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Tom Hardy has explained how the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film created Venom’s distinctive voice.

No newcomer to strange and iconic vocal performances after his work on The Dark Knight Rises as Bane, Tom Hardy’s latest vocal display comes as the Spider-Man villain Venom in the upcoming solo movie.

Venom’s trailers have so far revealed what audiences can expect the monstrous entity to sound like and Hardy has now revealed to EW how the film’s technical department brought it to life:

“Actually, the sound boys, they worked relentlessly to trigger [it] – I’d have to lay down the vocal for Venom in the morning and then play Eddie opposite in my earpiece, and whoever was working in the scene with me, had to hear Venom at the same time but then ignore that they’d heard Venom.

“And whenever I gave my cue line as Eddie Brock – this might not make any sense to anybody who’s not really techie and geeky about things like this like me – but Patrick [Anderson] would be under the stage queuing Venom accurately so I could cut across him and talk and argue with myself, and stuff like that. It’s a bit techie, it was fun. It was really, really good fun, and the sound boys, actually, to be fair, probably really play Venom. It’s my voice [laughs], but they play Venom.”

The dual nature of Hardy’s role as Venom and Eddie Brock is certainly a fun one and will surely be one of the movies most tantalising prospects. Have you enjoyed what you’ve seen and heard of Venom so far?
