Tom Holland was overcome with emotion while reading the positive reviews for Spider-Man: Homecoming

July 5, 2017 by Jordan Jones

The weeks, and days leading up to a movie’s release can be nerve-wracking for the cast and crew, to say the least. All of that hard work has culminated into a feature-length film that people will undoubtedly be giving their opinions of through social media. After all, it’s not just seasoned critics that give reviews anymore: every single person on Twitter is a critic to a degree, giving movies a yea or nay.

So, how did Spider-Man: Homecoming actor Tom Holland react when he pulled up Twitter, and saw the glowing reviews of his film start pouring in for the first time? Speaking to Collider, the actor described that moment:

“I have been on Twitter and it’s been blowing my mind. I woke up this morning and nearly cried. I genuinely nearly had tears falling down my face. You’re on set for 15 hours a day in that suit and it’s hard work. It really is hard. It’s long, it’s tough – people do a lot harder jobs – but, that said, I put my heart and soul in this movie, and to see that people are enjoying it is so amazing to me.”

It must have been an incredible feeling of accomplishment, and judging by the critical reception of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man (many calling him the best so far), it certainly sounds like he has earned it.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming sees Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Aunt May, alongside Marvel veterans Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Chris Evans as Captain America. New additions to the cast include Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Michael Barbieri, Abraham Attah, Hannibal Buress, Kenneth Choi, Angourie Rice, Michael Chernus, Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green and Jennifer Connelly.
