Tom Hooper to direct film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats

May 6, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) is set to helm a film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed long-running musical Cats, reports The Wrap. Working Title producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are behind the film, and previously worked with director Hooper on 2012’s Les Miserables.

Lloyd Webber’s Cats is based on the collection of poetry by T.S. Eliot called Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and was first performed in 1981. It tells the story of “a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who must decide which one of them will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.”

The Sun had previously reported that Hooper was circling the project.
