Tom McCarthy in talks to direct Timmy Failure for Disney

April 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that Tom McCarthy may have lined up his next feature, with the Spotlight writer-director said to be in talks with Disney to adapt Stephen Pastis’ book series Timmy Failure. McCarthy would direct the project, as well as co-writing the screenplay with author Pastis.

Timmy Failure “centers on an 11-year-old boy who believes he is the best detective in town and runs the agency Total Failure Inc. with his partner, a 1,200-pound, imaginary polar bear, and his sidekick Rollo Tookus.”

McCarthy received the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for 2015’s Spotlight, and has most recently helmed two episodes of Netflix’s acclaimed series 13 Reasons Why. He has also penned the screenplay for Christopher Robin, Disney’s planned live-action Winnie the Pooh movie.
