TV adaptation of superhero comic book series Astro City in development

March 23, 2018 by Gary Collinson

FremantleMedia North America has snapped up the rights to writer Kurt Busiek and artists Brent Anderson and Alex Ross’ superhero comic book series Astro City and is in development on a TV adaptation.

Originally debuting in 1995 at Image Comics, and currently published by DC, Astro City takes place in the titular metropolis, where it explores the lives of both ordinary people and superhumans, and their daily struggle to hold on to hope in the face of world-shaking, life-altering events beyond any single individual’s control.

The Astro City universe currently spans 16 standalone stories, and consists of over 2,000 original characters. Writer Busiek, who owns the rights to the series, will write the pilot episode with Rick Alexander and executive produce with Alexander and Gregory Noveck.

“It’s a thrill to be working with Rick, Gregory and FremantleMedia on this,” said Busiek. “Everyone, at every turn, is supportive, helpful and completely focused on capturing the feel of Astro City and bringing it to life as a TV show.”
