UK cinema chains adding extra premium to Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets in first week of release

December 1, 2015 by Tom Beasley

At least two UK cinema chains, Odeon and Vue, are set to charge an extra ticket premium for showings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the first week of the blockbuster’s December release.

Den of Geek has reported that Odeon is charging an extra £1 on top of their pre-existing £1 premium for new blockbusters, creating an overall £2 uplift on tickets for the latest Star Wars outing.

This new price increase comes on the heels of the extra 50p added to opening week tickets of newest Bond movie Spectre by the cinema chain.

The Vue cinema chain also adds a premium to tickets for blockbuster movies on their opening.

A spokesperson for Odeon told Den of Geek: “Like many cinemas, theatres and leisure venues, our ticket prices vary depending on location, the type of entertainment we’re showing, seat type, time since release, the age of our guests and the number of people booking at one time.

“This gives our guests plenty of choice and the opportunity to enjoy discounts and promotions during quieter periods, with all pricing options clearly listed in our cinemas and online.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 17th in the UK and December 18th in the States.
